p.s. thanks for the martin luther quote. it is beautiful and most comforting.

A beautiful dog - no more pain and someday you will meet again, after all if Martin Luther said it....
I had a book of Kipling dog and cat stories as a child and have always remembered his quote about "giving your heart to a dog to tear" and now finally having a dog I know what he meant. (Though cats can do a good job too.) Take care of yourselves.

I'm so sorry for your loss, and that I didn't get to know Poppy sooner. I had a blogging dog, Trixie, who died aged over 15 last year. What beautifully comforting quotes you have chosen as a memorial.

GreenishLady said...

I got the name wrong. That's terrible. Now I see your lovely girl was Cub, not "Poppy". So sorry.

DogBlogger said...

Actually, GreenishLady, she went by either name, or both. So you didn't get it wrong, dear.

Thank you, and all the rest, for your condolences. Our family is taking comfort in all these caring messages.

So so sorry Amy. I know you loved Cub so. Prayers from Susan, Cana, Caleb, Maggie/Sam, Mel and Danger. And I think Prince had a special meow welcome for Cub and a milkbone too when he reached the pearly pet gate. And Saint Francis welcomed her at his feet. And other things too wonderful for a mortal human to imagine.

May waves of love wash over and surround you at this sad time. I am very fond of Rowan and Scout and Grendel and learned through them of Cub's promotion to Heaven, where I truly believe she now runs free.

I am crying as I write this, knowing the sadness you must feel. The dog-shaped hole in our hearts hurts so bad when they leave us, but the joy that comes from remembering their unconditional love will help to fill it.

Grendel can see that I am crying, and he looks up quizzically. I will tell him that his good friend has gone to the Rainbow Bridge, but soon we will all be together again.

I am sorry that I haven't let Grendel come around much because of too much work on my part--but you can bet that he will touch base with all his friends again.
